Basic Incident Command System (ICS I-100)

Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS I-100)

The importance of having trained, competent & prepared response capability, from Frist Response to complex incident/event management is vital in all agencies on all levels.

Studies discovered that response problems could rarely be attributed to a lack of resources or failure of tactics, but due to the lack of incident & resource management.

It is a:

  • standardized,
  • on-scene,
  • all-hazards approach to incident management.

Allows all responders to embrace an integrated organizational structure that matches the complexities and demands of an incident but still respecting other agency and jurisdictional authorities. Although ICS promotes standardization, it is a flexible system, the ICS organizational structure can expand or contract to meet incident needs

ICS is widely applicable and can be used to organize, from small to complex incidents, both natural and manmade.

ICS is used by all levels of government, as well as by many private-sector and nongovernmental organizations and is applicable across disciplines.

It is structured in five major functional areas: command, operations, planning, logistics, and finance & administration.”
